Last night we attended, on behalf of Golowan, the 2016 What’s On Cornwall Awards at the Eden Project where Golowan Festival was one of the nominees in the Best Family Event category. After a long day at the office we didn’t have time to go home and get ‘glammed up’ and we arrived a little late and probably rather bleary-eyed! But it didn’t matter – it was a nice, relaxed atmosphere and everyone was really friendly.
We shared a table with the lovely people from Kota Kai restaurant and the young lads from the band Even Nine who, along with other musicians and singers, entertained the audience. Even Nine later went on to win the award for best Music Act. And what a treat to have dinner provided – a yummy paella and ‘Make your own Eden Mess – delicious’!
We had hoped that we would win but knew that we were up against tough competition – the Port Eliot Festival, Viking Voyagers and City of Lights. So we were delighted and very excited when Golowan’s name was read out. Luckily we managed to get on stage without tripping up the steps and luckier still no speeches were required! We were absolutely thrilled to have won the award and still giggling with pleasure after we got back to our seats. The award is extra special for Golowan in the year when the festival has been handed back to the local community.
It was a great night with wins for The Savoy Cinema and Mackerel Sky as well as Golowan, and Penlee House Gallery would only have needed another eight votes to win! Well done Penzance!
Proud to have accepted the award on behalf of the Golowan team, all the wonderful Golowan volunteers and the people of Penzance! A big thank you to the organisers and everyone who voted for us and congratulations to all the other award winners!
